by , 7:00 AM EST, March 28th, 2002

CMS Peripherals is now shipping secure backup solutions for Mac users. The Automatic Backup System Plus is designed to be a full recovery backup system for data storage. The drives support both FireWire and USB and come with 60G of storage space. According to CMS Peripherals:

CMS Peripherals(R) today announced the immediate availability of a new 60GB capacity Automatic Backup System Plus (ABSplus) for Mac(tm) OS and Mac OS X. The award-winning ABSplus is a complete backup solution with full recovery, designed for use with laptops but compatible with any FireWire or USB machine.

ABSplus and ABSplus for Desktops was introduced on the Macintosh platform at Macworld Expo in January 2002 and was honored to receive a "Macworld Best of Show Award" because of its "understanding of the Macintosh community in an easy to use backup system."

ABSplus is designed to defy extreme travel conditions, able to withstand a non-operating shock of up to 800Gs and operating temperatures ranging from 5degrees C to 55degrees C. Both ABSplus solutions can be used as an additional drive volume with high-speed FireWire providing enough throughput for streaming audio and video files.

You can find more information about the ABS Plus release at the CMS Peripherals Web site. The ABS Plus 60G drive is available for US$799.00.
