by , 3:30 PM EDT, April 29th, 2002

In addition to announcing Dreamweaver MX and Fireworks MX today, Macromedia has also announced a bundling package that includes both of those products in addition to ColdFusion MX, Flash MX, and FreeHand 10. ColdFusion MX does not run on Mac OS X, but the ability to author for ColdFusion MX is built into Dreamweaver MX. All four of the other included products do work with Mac OS X. From Macromedia:

Macromedia®, Inc. today announced Macromedia Studio MX, the essential suite of integrated tools for developing the full spectrum of Internet solutions, from simple HTML to the emerging class of rich Internet applications. Macromedia Studio MX combines the latest versions of market- leading Macromedia tools to provide developers with a streamlined, integrated product family focused on increasing developer productivity and return on investment.

Macromedia Studio MX includes Macromedia Dreamweaver® MX, Macromedia Flash(TM) MX, Macromedia Fireworks® MX, Macromedia FreeHand® 10, and a developer edition of Macromedia ColdFusion® MX. The studio, with introductory pricing of $799, is expected to ship in May.

Macromedia Studio MX delivers a completely integrated experience. It offers product integration, common user-interface standards, and a seamless workflow to accelerate developer productivity. The consistent user interface elements include color management, drawing tools, code editing, a common property inspector, and panel management to make it seamless when moving between applications. The products also provide support for accessibility, better usability, and the latest operating systems including Windows XP and Mac OS X. More than 2.4 million designers and developers already use a combination of the products available in the studio.

Macromedia Dreamweaver MX enables developers to both design and code the full spectrum of solutions from Web sites to Internet applications. Macromedia Flash MX, which began shipping in March, enables the development of rich Internet applications and content that deliver the best user experiences with significant return on investment. Macromedia Fireworks MX provides the easiest way to create, optimize, and export interactive graphics in a single, web- centric environment. Macromedia FreeHand 10 provides customers a quick way to storyboard Web sites that can be exported into Dreamweaver. The developer edition of Macromedia ColdFusion MX is a non-expiring, full-featured edition that works on a single computer to enable customers to develop rich Internet applications.

You can find more information on Studio MX at the company's Web site. The suite is expected to ship in May, and the full version is priced at US$799. The company is offering upgrade pricing from US$299 to US$599. Version in Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swedish are expected to be available at a "later date."

The Mac Observer Spin:

US$799 (retail) is a very compelling offer for Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Flash, and FreeHand. For those running servers from the supported platforms, the included copy of ColdFusion makes it even more compelling.
