Apple To Participate In Bio-ITWorld This March, In Boston

by , 1:00 PM EST, February 25th, 2003

IDG World Expo, the company that runs Macworld, has announced that Apple will be participating in a new trade show this March called Bio-ITWorld Conference & Expo. Apple will be joined by other big name anchors like EMC, IBM, and HP, and the show will be held in Boston. Boston is the new home for the East Coast Macworld starting in 2004, though Apple has said it will no longer participate in the East Coast show once the move is made.

Bio-ITWorld is a conference that is aimed at the life sciences, as opposed to the more general audience of Macworld. As such, the show is much smaller and specialized, with the 2002 Boston show attracting some 4,000 attendees. In comparison, Macworld has attracted as many as 80,000 people, but Bio-ITWorld puts Apple in front of an industry in which the company would very much like to be a player.

IDG World Expo today announced that Apple, EMC, IBM, HP and a number of other technology and life sciences companies will exhibit at the upcoming Bio-ITWorld Conference & Expo, taking place March 25-27, 2003 at Boston's Hynes Convention Center. Bio-ITWorld Conference & Expo attracts pharmaceutical, biotechnology, academic, government and life science professionals who come to learn how technology tools for the life sciences can drive efficiencies, create opportunities and increase profitability within their organizations.Bio-ITWorld's exhibitor list is a who's who of the key players providing technology solutions for the life sciences.

Exhibitors will also take part in interactive presentations held on the Bio-ITWorld exhibit floor. The Technology Demonstration Theater will feature product managers and scientists presenting technology solutions that will revolutionize life science research and discovery. Participating companies include AnVil, APC, Apple, BlueArc, Corporate Technologies, Essex Technologies Group, Gene Logic, NuGenesis, Procom Technologies and Vitza, Inc..

You can find more information on Bio-ITWorld at the event's Web site.

The Mac Observer Spin:

This is a good show for Apple to participate in, as this industry is big, and will only get bigger for the foreseeable future. Unlike mammoth shows like Macworld, this sort of event doesn't require the same kind of resources for Apple to participate. At the same time, the audience is so targeted that it makes it much easier for a company like Apple to get a good return on the resources that it does commit.
