From The Show Floor - Disc Makers Introduces MacElite Duplicator with 2 Drives

by , 1:00 PM EDT, July 15th, 2004

Sure, many Macs come with fairly capable optical drives, capable of creating CDs and DVDs; but if you need to create a large number of identical discs, even the fastest drive won't cut it. Fortunately, Disc Makers can help make the job easier with their MacElite line of disc duplicators. Previously only available in a single drive unit, at this week's show the company introduced a new MacElite unit with 2 drives, effectively doubling the throughput when compared to their single drive unit.

The MacElite system handles all aspects of disc production, from reading and caching the original, to designing and printing a professional-quality label. The CD-R version can produce at least 20 CD-Rs per hour, and the DVD version can produce 7 DVD-Rs or 18 CD-Rs per hour. The input and output spindles can hold up to 125 discs, so you can leave the unit alone for quite some time before having to add more media.

The Mac Elite with 2 CD-R drives is priced at $3,590, and with 2 DVD-R drives is $4,390.

Remember that bill that the RIAA and Orrin Hatch had proposed that would make hardware Mfg. liable if they sell stuff that could be used to violate copyright laws?

This is another useful device that would be squashed.

I woundered if you have the measurements of the IOGEAR's ION 1.8" drive yet? Your reply to size matters stated that you would try to get the information and post it. Well?

Hi Guest (please consider registering) for some reason the original article isn't in our report list. In the interest of getting you the info ASAP, here's what the IOGEAR folks provided, thanks to someone in their main office pulling out a ruler and doing the work:

H 4.75" W 3.125" D 0.625"

A quick calculation based on other drives shows that the total volume of this drive is probably the smallest, with the largest dimension (5.75" on one of the LaCie units) being the most reduced.
