Take Your mini Underwater with SV-iMini

by , 2:50 AM EST, November 23rd, 2004

H2O Audio has introduced the H2O Audio SV-iMini, the first fully waterproof and submersible housing for Apple's iPod mini. Designed with extreme wear in mind, the SV-iMini features a unique dial and push button assembly for underwater use of the mini's Click Wheel.

"Having music in the water is simply amazing," Peter Mel, professional surfer and world-class big wave rider, said in the press release "Big props to H2O for creating a product that could be the biggest technological advancement in surfing since the short board."

Also included with the SV-iMini is a waterproof speaker headset. The SV-iMini sells for $149.95.

I'm sure we will hear from Paul Thurrott that WMP in a future release of the "superior" Dell DJ version will make their player watertight to far greater depths than the Mini.

Seriously, pretty cool.

...but I might have to break down and just buy one of these. Those stupid little radios suck for swimming. But good music would make those boring laps just float right by.

is to quit adding accessories for the iRiver players, and get something out for the iPod line at both the sv and dv series (so you can dive deeper than the iPod could probably take for pressure

but seriously, this is awesome

Now I can listen to an iPod whilst riding my motorcycle through rush hour traffic in the rain.

Or would that be considered stupid?

Why do people charge so much for a piece of plastic with a rubber gasket? This isnt a bleep hydrophone for whale songs. Its a plastic case and some waterproof earplugs. Hmmmm waterproof earplugs.... WOW I bet those cost $100+ to make. Sorry they dont. All they are is SEALED earplugs with the speaker opening changed to a diaphragm. Paying over $50 for this whole setup is bleep stupid. Though diving with music, thats the $#!%. Then again we could come to find it attracts sharks, when you play Nelly.

Funny, the site *@^@&$( the word feeble attempt at disguising profanity but not the word, bleep - you figure it out? Dumass bleep site.

Edited for profanity

Ah, but sharks don't attack divers, even if they have iPods. They go for things on the surface, like swimmers, surfers and, much more frequently, seals.

Personally, I think it's cool if I see a shark when diving, especially raggies, so if they get attracted by iPods, that's another reason to buy one

Notice that you can actually use the click wheel through this piece of plastic with a rubber gasket. I'm impressed.

There's a little thing they teach in business school known as "fixed" or "overhead" costs that mean very little to a large business, but can be killer for small businesses.

Perhaps if these become very popular you'll see the price drop, but until that happens anyone who buys this thing has to share those costs.

A lot of these accessories are priced higher than they would be if someone like Dell made them for exactly this reason. Unfortunately, very few of these items could become popular enough to become made in such large numbers. But in exchange for the higher prices we get hundreds of choices. You COULD have a company that made cheap iPod accessories...but they'd only have 7 or 8 items instead of the hundreds available to you now.
