DLO Ships iPod Boombox

by , 1:00 PM EST, November 24th, 2004

Digital Lifestyle Outfitters today began shipping its new iPod-oriented iBoom boombox. Announced last month, the relatively small iBoom features a dock connector on the front that allows users to drop their iPod or iPod mini into the device.

iBoom delivers 20 watts to each of its two speakers, has an FM radio, built-in handle, and is powered by either its included AC adapter or 6 D batteries. iBook sells for $149.99.

$150? Now that is a little outrageous. I think it'd rather buy some cheap $10 portable speakers and tape them together. Not a very nice design either.

Subject: Does it have a remote?

A remote will be very good, but I am not sure if this unit has one. Is there any other iPod boombox product that has a remote that works with iPod?

Not only does it not have a remote, it only holds 3 FM presets (it doesn't do AM at all), the volume doesn't go quiet or loud enough, the power cord is permanently attached and placed in the battery compartment (making it hard to put the batteries in correctly), and the buttons become hard to press after a few months.

It does have its benefits (The batteries last forever, it works as a charger, and sounds pretty good at mid range volumes) but for $150 I should have been completely satisfied, if it was $80 I would be completely satisfied with it.
