Improve Your Mac mini's AirPort Performance

by , 12:15 AM EST, March 31st, 2005

QuickerTek has brought its 5.5dBi wireless antenna boosting option to the Mac mini, which improves the systems AirPort reception. QuickerTek says its omnidirectional solution allows the Mac mini to reach access points up to three times further away.

A three-foot coax cable comes with the antenna for easy mounting. The new design does not alter the case in any way and is styled to match the Mac mini case.

The Mac mini antenna is available now for $80.

How fashionable! Mac fans can put this on top of their head and pretend that they are their own base station for their favorite headless SPAM container/powerhouse computer.

Subject: what about transmission?

i was going to get a mac mini as a jukebox. and would like to use it in software base station mode as well as broadcasting to an Airport Express (streaming music) ... presumably the antenna increases transmission distance as well as reception distance? ... right?

Talk about taking a cue from the 'premium pricing' playbook.

$80 for a small antenna (ie. piece of wire wrapped around a tubular form)?

Every product from this company is retardedly overpriced.

Yeah.

Um, if you knew anything about electronics and RF energy, you might realize that an antenna is a difficult thing to engineer correctly. Moron.

But hey, if it's too expensive for you, just jam a coat hanger in the back. Hell, it worked for TV, right?

Subject: i have an important question

jokes from trolls aside, some people actually NEED this kind of stuff to make the most of broadband.

my question is, how does it connect to the Mac mini? what does the 3-foot coax cable do?

thanks peoples, i am not an antenna expert so sensible answers will help greatly.

Of course. A wireless network is two-way: all stations transmit and receive.
