Tiger Pre-Orders Ship
by , 10:45 AM EDT, April 28th, 2005
We've begun hearing from Observers who pre-ordered Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" and have received shipping notification. Delivery for most pre-orders was promised for Friday, April 29th, the same day the software will be released in retail stores.
For those who didn't pre-order the Mac OS X upgrade, Apple announced in-store "Tiger World Premiere" events from 6:00 PM to midnight at the company's fleet of retail stores. Many third-party VARs will also be hosting Tiger release events.
For those who didn't pre-order, can't stop at an Apple Store to buy the software this weekend, and still want to order it, Amazon is offering Tiger for $94.88, more than $30 off retail pricing of $129.
You can find more information on Tiger at Apple's Web site.

Got mine today at 1:00 Irish time. Just backed up every thing and about to sign off on Panther. Get this. It shiped yesterday from Nuneaton, West midlands, UK. Was in Liege, Belgium at 1.58 am. In Dublin by mid morning. Box and internal booklets printed and packaged in Ireland. Go figure!

Bought the Family Pack from Amazon for the $50 Rebate - I'm still paying for 2 of the 5 Macs in the family. With the free shipping I'll probably get it after 4.1 is available. At least I'll be able to keep an eye on how things are going and see if there are any bumps. And, yes Bryan, I did order through the TMO link.

I'm so psyched. My parents will be in town in the afternoon though, so I'll spend the afternoon/dinner-time with then. But then of course, what do I do Friday night? Do I go out and party, or continue being a huge nerd and install Tiger?!

Got it today. Installed it. Played a little. Seems good. Nothing super earth shattering to me yet, but I'm just getting started. Dashboard is nice, and spotlight says it needs 77 hours to index my machine. Of course, I do have about 700 Gigs of hard drives hooked up to it.
Just moved into my new house (hence my being gone for a long time) and I'll take it home to install and play with there over the weekend.

In The Netherlands we have reports of people receiving their pre-ordered Tigers all week. Some distributors seemingly just want to get rid of all those silly boxes lying around, regardless of any instructions from Apple.....
Looks good, feels good. Just a few Safari enhancements that have stopped working. I'll have to wait for Tiger compatible versions of those to be released in the next few weeks.
I did a Nuke 'n Pave after which the transition of my old configuration and extra software was flawless.
I preordered last week because when I called the Apple Store directly to ask about when it would ship in the new machines and was told that most people that will wait inline on Friday will only get a certificate for pick up at a later date. Only certain stores and not many will get the physical packages for Friday.
So . . . I ordered. If this proves untrue, oh well, I'll get it an hour and a half, at least, earlier and won't have to stand inline in the snow and cold, even though there is a Starbucks right across from my local Apple Store. That's how I got Panther, I stopped off for a Carmel Frappacino and then found myself inline. Not this year.
Now I can go and see Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and be back just in time for Tiger to arrive. Cooul.

Due to an unexpected delay, we are unable to ship the following
item(s) by the date that you were originally quoted:
M9639Z/A, OS X V10.4 "TIGER" RETAIL-INT
will now ship on or before 04/29/2005
BOO! HISS!
What's the delay? Will now ship on or before... today!
i pre ordered Tiger a long time ago... still no clue as to where it might be.. on friday the tracking thing said it was getting ready to ship, which is already a huge disappointment.. What is the point of pre-order, i couldve WALKED to the nearest store that sells apple products which is some 100km from where i live, and still have it sooner than this..
Apple always likes to surprise me with their shipping methods. Last time the shipping company left our ipod mini infront of our door and just singed the paper themselves... very professional?
