PC Site Envy News Switches to Mac News, Reviews
by , 6:00 AM EDT, April 29th, 2005
Envy News, a Web site that bills itself as the place for news and reviews of "quality gadgets for hardware zealots," has announced that it is making the switch from PC to Mac. According to Managing Editor Neil Yates, this isn't a move just on the production side: Envy News will now produce news and reviews aimed at a Mac audience. He said in a statement: "From here on in, we're Mac evangelists and Mac users."
On the front page of the Envy News Web site, Mr. Yates explains that he first used Macs in the mid-80s "but somewhere along the way, I was tainted and switched to PC." The purchase of a G4 Power Mac in 2000, however, reignited his interest in the platform, and now, with Mac OS X v10.4 "Tiger" about to be released and Apple's market share rising on the tide of the iPod's success, he felt that this was the right time to make a site-wide switch to Mac.
Mr. Yates now uses a Power Mac G5 and noted that Envy News' giveaway happening Monday, May 2 will be of interest to owners of that machine as well as the G5 iMac. The contest will be open to worldwide readers of all ages.

So I went to the Envy News site and read the blurb about the big switch. What I don't understand is why he says that the 20 or so people working there are out of a job. Can't a PC person work on a Mac web site? That person may have some interesting insights, if their mind is open. It may even convince that person to switch too.
Now if these people are all Apple haters, I could understand asking them to leave if they can't go into this with an open mind, but otherwise, why not keep the employees you have a good relationship with? Makes no sense to me.

Well, Yates does say: "Several of us here now own Macs, but with the site switching, we'll need to re-staff many positions within our Press Office."
If you're going to review Apple hardware and software, I can understand why you'd require staffers to use Macs.
well, that's a twisted incentive to Switch..
"dude, you're gonna have to use a Mac"
-wha?
"yeah dude, you gotta use a Mac from now on, else you're fired"
-like The Apprentice you're fired fired?
"yeah..." (walks away)
-(grumbles) dammit now i can't use the "reinstalling" or "running anti-virus" excuse anymore to sit on my butt... and i can't play counter-strike late at night any more... damn apple... stupid job... (continues grumbling)
