Extensis Releases Portfolio 8

by , 4:20 PM EST, November 29th, 2005

Extensis on Tuesday released version 8 of its digital asset management (DAM) solution Portfolio. This upgrade enables users to organize and share files with visual catalogs and embedded metadata, in addition to the ability to add cataloging presets to AutoSync folders, and offers a new feature for tracking job status and communicating it with other team members.

In addition, Portfolio users now have access to sample catalogs that help explain certain tasks, such as stock image management, and the new fast-cataloging feature enables them to start working with new files immediately while other cataloging tasks continue in the background. Portfolio 8 also automatically creates screen previews for CDs, DVDs, Web sites and e-mails, which helps users share files faster, whether they're online or offline.

Other new features include private galleries and scratchpad galleries for collecting items from different locations and printing them or performing other activities. Extensis has also improved Portfolio's speed and metadata handling.

Portfolio 8 Client/Server solutions start at US$6,000, with client connections for Portfolio Server available for under $300 per seat. The single-user version is $199.95, with upgrades from versions 6 and 7 available for $99.95. Mac OS X v10.3, a 1GHz G3 processor, 256MB RAM and 200MB hard drive space are required.
