Apple "Fun New Products" Event Coverage

by , 12:05 PM EST, February 28th, 2006

Apple is announcing what it describes as "Fun new products" at a special media event in Cupertino at 10:00a.m. Pacific time today. Although live coverage of the event isn't permitted, TMO will have our editor-in-chief, Bryan Chaffin on site, and we'll provide near-live coverage, including updates and photographs, as soon as possible.

Apple distributed media invitations to a special event to be held at its world headquarters in Cupertino, inviting journalists to attend the unveiling of new products. There is no official word on what Apple plans to announce, but speculation ranges from the usual Apple-branded phone, to Intel-based Mac minis, and on to full-length movie downloads at the iTunes Music Store.

Seeing as how the event started about 4 minutes before you posted, I'd say "relax." You'll probably have to wait 'till it's over.

But, as teh Steve might so rightly point out, what did you expect?

Small presentation, not at any major expo, an honestly downplayed invitation and relatively "hastily" arranged.

The big surpise, I suppose, is that Jobs was giving the presentation. Perhaps that's what set us up the bomb.

meh.

I am a huge Apple fan, but this is ridiculous. There is no way those speakers (one speaker!) is worth anywhere near $350, and the intel mac mini is an insult to anyone's intelligence.

It's $800 for the core duo model. By the time you add a screen and keyboard and mouse, it's going to cost MORE than an iMac. Hasn't Apple learned that new computers really DO need to be as cheap or cheaper (preferably) than the models they are replacing? Especially for a model you can't even open for service.

There is no PC user alive that is going to pay $800 for this. And, even the Core "solo" model is more than the G4. Give us a break, Apple.

I will. I have a need for a bottom end, get on the web and e-mail computer and can see a Mini in my future. I have a monitor, keyboard and mouse already so there will be minimal extra cost. Oh and you can open the Mac Mini for service;
