iWeb 1.1.1 Fixes .Mac Issues

by , 6:00 PM EDT, May 26th, 2006

Apple on Friday updated iWeb to version 1.1.1, fixing issues related to publishing Web sites to .Mac accounts and refining the comment and search support for blogs and podcasts published to .Mac. It can be downloaded from Apple's Support site or through the Software Update preference pane.

Subject: iWeb 1.1.1 (Let's make sure pro aren't using it)

I've loved iWeb since it first came out. But this new version (and maybe the last one [I'm not sure, just wanted to cover all bases]) really gets me POed. (Now I'm sounding like my grandfather.)

The update is good, the code it generates is more compatible... BUT, the pages it generates is completely different in code that the last version.

The reason I bitch about this, is because I've been using iWeb to make great podcasts, picture galleries and more for many sites (most of which pay me). Now that iWeb generates code completely different from before, it has actually made my job much much much more time consuming.
It used to be a snap to bring pages generated by iWeb into Dreamweaver and customize them, now everything has changed!

Yes, the code is cleaner AND more up with newest technologies (that IE finally implemented). BUT, it's become much more work for me than before to "tweak" the settings to one's (or client's) own preference.

iWeb used to be a timesaver for me, but now it ranks with M$ Front Page (when one wants to customize it). [Actually I shouldn't make the comparison. I've never used Front Page, but my "competition" does. It's just that I've taken over many websites from my nemesis, and all of that crap {that I had to redo} was done in Front Page.}

THE REAL QUESTION......

Is Apple going to make a PRO version?!?!? (I hope so, but I doubt it. It's always been that Apple buys a company that does pro apps, then it later gets worked into iLife {i.e. Final Cut Pro, DVD Studio Pro, Logic}. BUT there is that big exception, iPhoto. Which later brought the Pro app Aperture.

Here's hoping that Apple does to iWeb what it did to iPhoto!!! (In every sense... Aperture complements Photoshop --- so... hopefully if there's a Pro version of iWeb it will complement Dreamweaver/Go Live!
