Apple Recycling Program Starts Today
by , 11:10 AM EDT, May 31st, 2006
Apple's free computer take-back program officially launched on Wednesday. When you buy a new Mac from the Apple Store online, or at a retail Apple Store, the company will recycle your old computer for free. Any computer qualifies, regardless of the manufacturer.
Apple provides customers with pre-paid shipping labels and return instructions. All of the computer equipment received will be processed in the United States, and no hazardous materials will be shipped over seas.
The computer take-back program is available only in the 48 contiguous states.
Apple also recycles old iPods at its retail locations. Recycling an iPod also gets you a ten percent discount on the purchase of a new one.
Additional information about Apple's environmental policy is available at the company Web site.
