Observer Comments
QuoteThe update weighs in at 39.8MB.
The size of the update depends on how you download it, your machine model, and your current OS version. The "combo" updaters, which will update any machine with any version of Tiger, for PPC and Intel are 145MB and 215MB, respectively. If you have the bandwidth, this is the recommended update method, since it seems to reduce the risk of problems.

I updated to 10.4.7 on a Blue & White that has a G3/1G processor update in it, with 1 G of RAM, and the reboot back to desktop took in excess of an hour. In fact, I had to leave it going at work and was able to log back in it several hours later, so I am not sure the exact time, but I had let it run for my last hour there and it still was at the blue screen with the spinning cog wheel.
Bizarre. But at least it's back up!

Wed Jun 28, 2006 12:35 am Subject: Mine was pretty zippy
I've updated three machines so far
G4-DP 1Gb RAM
G4 PB 15" 1Gb RAM
G5 iMac 1 Gb RAM
All of them loaded the update installed and it quickly. The reboot might have been a little bit longer but not much. I haven't noticed any speed improvement.
Now I tend to be a bit obsessive about maintenance. I run Onyx once a month to keep any potential problems at bay and apply any and all patches as soon as they come out. Perhaps that might account for the difference. If your machine needed a bit of maintenance, it's possable that the update does it (drive optimization, or repair file rights for example) on the first reboot. If so that maintenance might also account for any speed bump you're seeing with 10.4.7.
It's a theory anyway.

Not only do I echo the comments about the long start ups but my dual core also seems to have a problem loading finder, specificly when it trys to find wireless signal. This was never a problem before but after a 2 minute look at all these internet forums it seems to me that this update has been more hastle than it's worth, Still, no word from mac themselves... dissapointing really.
