Microsoft Likely to Ship Vista RC1 Next Week

by , 2:30 PM EDT, August 29th, 2006

Microsoft will likely ship Release Candidate 1 (RC1) of its upcoming Windows Vista operating system as early as next week, according to Macworld UK. Jupiter Research analyst Joe Wilcox told the Web site that it will likely issue at last two Release Candidates as it strives to get the final version in business customers' hands in November and consumers' hands in January.

Mr. Wilcox recalled that it took Microsoft two months to release the final version of Windows XP after RC1 of that OS came out. "No way" will the company make its current milestones if a third Release Candidate of Vista is needed. With six weeks needed for OEMs (original equipment manufacturers) to get Vista installed on computers and tested, Microsoft can't go beyond the end of November if it wants consumers to have the OS in January.

It's gonna suck having a nice 10.4/XP dual booting Mac and then suddenly have two new operating systems to install. Ugh. Too much work!

They should call it beta 3 because all the feedback that I've read says the operating system isn't even stable yet. The worst thing is it can't even run an antivirus program either!

LOL about the antivirus comment. Can't EVEN run an antivirus program. You need to learn a little something about kernel driver development. And while you're at it, maybe a little something about software engineering. Call up Symantec and maybe they'll sell you a pre-release version of their product for an OS that isn't shipping until next year. NOT.
