Microsoft, DOJ Extend Anti-Trust Settlement At Least Two Years

by , 2:45 PM EDT, August 31st, 2006

Microsoft and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) on Wednesday filed paperwork that will extend the settlement of the company's anti-trust judgment for at least two years, according to IDG News. Microsoft needs "more time to complete work on technical documentation for licensees of its communications protocols," reporter Grant Gross wrote.

The current anti-trust order will expire in November 2007. If the extension is approved, the DOJ and 17 state plaintiffs can get another three years if they have problems with Microsoft's documentation, which is aimed at other IT vendors who want to develop Windows server software.

The current problem is that hundreds of bugs remain in the technical documentation, as of May.
