SubRosaSoft announced the immediate availability of MacLockPick on Friday. MacLockPick is a USB-based forensics tool that extracts passwords from Apple Keychain. The device attaches to a Mac USB port and culls User passwords, passwords for encrypted disk images, wireless access points email accounts, peer to peer networks, online services, .Mac accounts, and more. It also collects information on file and folder activity, email activity, viewed QuickTime movies, browser history, Web cache and cookie files, and bookmarks.

MacLockPick is available to law enforcement and licensed investigators only through the SubRosaSoft Web site. It is priced at US$499.95 for licensed investigators, $449.95 for state and local law enforcement, and $399.95 for Federal law enforcement.

The company's name is a bit sadder than it should be.

Subject: More zero-day Mac hacks? or easily defeated?

Has SubRosaSoft found some zero-day exploits in Mac OS X that they're keeping to themselves rather than sharing with Apple?

If not, how does it avoid simple workarounds such as logging out, shutting down, or just requiring a password to wake from sleep?

Subject: Keychain Security

1. Keychain password should NOT be the same as Login Password.
2. Login should be required after sleep or screensaver.
3. Keychain Lock icon should be on menubar. Keep it locked.
4. Set short inactivity timer for Keychain auto-lock.
5. Good luck!

BTW: Java and JavaScript required by this site are BIG security holes! Turn them off!

Subject: I'm wondering about keychain and if it is safe

I'm wondering about keychain and if it is safe. If they don't have your administration password how do they get in through keychain if your system keychain is locked? If there is a hole I hope Apple finds a way to closed it.
