BetterZip 1.5 Adds SIT Support

MacItBetter announced the immediate availability of BetterZip 1.5 on Tuesday. BetterZip is a file compression and extraction application that support Zip archives along with over 20 other compression formats. The updated version added support for the Stuffit SIT format, and the DiskDoubler (DD), MacBinary (BIN), and BinHex (HQX) compression formats. BetterZip 1.5 is priced at US$19.95, and is available for download at the MacItBetter Web site.

Wed Jun 27, 2007 11:15 am Subject: Sit is a horrible format to choose

I am saying this as a Stuffit Deluxe owner. Allume should get rid of Sit by shipping a working Mac OS 9/10.2.8 stuffit expander having latest .sitx support.

Sitx is the real deal while Sit is a horrible, outdated format.

If they supported SitX, it could be a nice competitor to Dropstuff but "Sit" is a format you should really stay away in 2007. I am telling these in case anyone buys Better Zip just because they added "sit".

Sitx has some advantages over ZIP or even tar.bz2 as jpeg compression, redundancy and security. Sit would be only good for some DTP related stuff.

Allume should push their existing sit users by freely upgrading them to sitx format somehow. They still don't do it and they keep getting horrible feedback thanks to "Sit".

I have never used the .sit format here as a stuffit owner since 2003 (with my first Mac)
