Apple Releases SuperDrive Firmware Update 2.1
by , 7:35 AM EDT, June 28th, 2007
Apple released the free SuperDrive Firmware Update 2.1 for the MacBook and MacBook Pro on Wednesday. The scant information about the update states that it improves the readability of certain CD media.
Both the Software Update application and downloadable stand-alone installer work by adding an updater package that the user must run to update the SuperDrive firmware. The update also requires Mac OS x 10.4.4 or later.
Observer Comments
I just installed it. It doesn't indicate that a restart is necessary, but I got nothing but error messages when trying to burn a disk after installing it. I reset my machine and now my drive won't respond at all. Put a disk in the slot and it refuses to even take the disk in. There is little to no info on the update on apples site that I could find.
AAAAaaa!!!
P.S. My user name is Marvin, but I've been unable to log into the site for a couple of months now. Entering my login info just reloads the page with nothing changed

Hi - this worked for me. Assuming you're using Safari, go in to Preferences and select Security. Click the "Show Cookies" button, and enter Macobserver in the "find" entry box.
Delete all the entries there, get out of Safari and back in again. It might just work.
If my understanding of the problem is correct, it's because at some time in the last couple of months, a malformed cookie got set, which was stopping the logging on from working. If your cookie is one of these, removing it should fix the problem.
Let me know what happens…

I have the same problem. For some reason, the same update is listed twice in my updates history.
Bottom line is my DVD drive wont work at all - wont accept a disk.
Not sure where to look to try and fix it. Anyone have any ideas?

After downloading and installing with software update, the updater keeps appearing after reboot asking to run. When I run it, it says it can't find a drive that needs updated. Under about this mac it says: Firmware Revision: HAEA I wonder if that can tell me if it is the proper firmware? Can I delete 2.1 in the applications folder to stop the software from appearing?
Not sure what other kind of Macs, but I have a MacBook and seen that after the firmware update it killed the SuperDrive, now it can't read DVDs. I did everything right. I thought I was the only one, but when I went to the Apple Forums on the MacBook sections I seen that it happen to many people. A lot of them people don't have AppleCare and now they have to pay for something Apple messed up on
