Rogue Amoeba Launches Radioshift, PVR for Radio

by , 4:50 PM EDT, September 24th, 2007

Rogue Amoeba announced the immediate availability of its newest application, Radioshift, on Monday. The application allows the user to record and play back Internet and AM/FM radio.

Radioshift can be used to listen to over 50,000 radio listings from around the world, subscribe, and schedule recordings for playback. Streaming formats supported are: RealAudio, Windows Media, QuickTime and MP3.

The key to Radioshift is its built-in Radio Guide, which enables users to explore over 50,000 radio listings. While exploring the Guide, users can listen live to streams without worrying about the format of the stream. With a single click, audio can be subscribed to right from the guide. The audio will then be automatically recorded whenever it airs. Radioshift records in the background and has the audio ready for listening at any time.

Radioshift 1.0 is a Universal Application and requires Mac OS X 10.4 or later. A fully functional demo is available, however the audio quality will degrade over time. It is priced at US$32.00.

Why buy this if you have Audio Hijack Pro? It already records internet radio.

Or Wiretap Pro, I suppose. But competition is good, it keeps prices down and gives us better choices.

Yes it does; however, it doesn't have a tuner and you have to couple it with another program that will tune and receive the many different net stations. Radioshift would have all that in one program.

Subject: 50,000? I couldn't get more than 3 to actually connect

50,000, I couldn't get more than 3 to actually connect. There were probably 50,000 listed but 99.5% of them were unreachable for an unknown reason. So what good is it if you can't even connect to the stations? What's worse is apparently you can't record or import to iTunes. I tried this and then tossed it in the trash. The application promises a lot and delivers hardly anything.
They need to work on this really hard.
