TimeMachineScheduler Allows Better Interval Control
by , 3:30 PM EST, November 27th, 2007
Stefan Klieme has announced the immediate availability of TimeMachineScheduler. It can override Time Machine's default interval setting of one hour and set it to from one to 12 hours.
Leopard's Time Machine has a default backup interval of 1 hour, and that's not adjustable by the user even if the launchd.plist is altered. TimeMachineScheduler replaces the default launchd agent and provides a GUI option to set the interval with more latitude.
"TimeMachineScheduler disables the automatic backup funktion of Time Machine and installs its own launchd agent. As the agent is located in the main library, the administrator password is required for all (writing) operations. Except disabling Time Machine no further system files and preferences will be touched by TimeMachineScheduler," Mr. Klieme said.

A deinstaller is also provided. TimeMachineScheduler 1.0 requires a PowerPC or Intel Mac and Leopard. The software is free and has no warranty.
TMO notes that there are some minor typos on the Website, [now fixed] but these appear to be attributable to the translation from German to English.

"TimeMachineScheduler disables the automatic backup funktion of Time Machine..." Funktion? We should have a contest to find the best dictionary definition of this new word. I'll start. Funktion, noun. A wedding reception held in a location South of Houston Street (SoHo).
I'll continue! Funktion, n.: German equivalent of the English "function".
Hilarious!
