Newer Technology Launches Low Cost 802.11/n/g/b Router

by , 3:05 PM EST, January 11th, 2008

Newer Technology, Inc. announced on Friday that it will debut its low cost 802.11n/b/g wireless router at Macworld. The MAXPower 802.11n/g/b Wireless Router features a simple security initialization with the WiFi Protected Setup button.

The new router is backwards compatible with earlier 802.11/g/b wireless standards, and can be easily added to a current network without disruption. It is described as "plug-and-play" and features on-screen menus for setup.

Features include: IEEE 802.11n draft 2.0 compliant, 64/128bit WEP, WPA, WPA2, simple firewall, MAC address filtering, NAT filtering, one 100 Mbps WAN port and 4 x 100 Mbps LAN ports. It weights 11 ounces (320 grams).

"The latest encryption and security features are built into the MAXPower 802.11n/g/b Wireless Router and Adapters to protect the network and individual computers from hackers and unauthorized users," NewerTech said. "With a simple press of the WPS button (WiFi Protected Setup) on the MAXPower 802.11n/g/b Wireless Router, a wireless network is automatically configured with a network name (SSID) and WPA data encryption and authentication."

This 802.11n protocol offers "up to 300 Mbps, with an up to four times greater reception range over [the] 802.11g protocol," NewerTech said.

The MAXPower 802.11n/g/b Wireless Router comes with a two year warranty, is compatible with Mac OS X 10.3.9 or later, and Windows 2000/XP/Vista networks. It is priced at US$97.99. Availability is expected on January 25th, 2008.
