OWC Announces 320 GB, Bus-Powered, 7,200 RPM Portable Drive

Other World Computing (OWC) announced the market's highest capacity portable, USB2 or FireWire bus-powered, 7,200 RPM drive on Wednesday. The Mercury On-The-Go 320 GB portable drive has models available that support USB 2.0, USB 2.0 + eSATA, FireWire 400 + USB 2.0, and FireWire 800/400 + USB 2.0 Interfaces.

These portable drive solutions are built with the latest Hitachi 7K320 mechanism with OWC's custom bridge interfaces and provide the highest performance of any portable storage solution available on the market, OWC said.


OWC's On-The-Go Portable Series

The Mercury On-The-Go 320GB 7,200 RPM portable storage drive is available immediately and priced starting at US$239.99 through OWC and other retailers. It includes a carrying case, connecting cables, Prosoft DataRescue III for OS X, and NovaStor NovaBackup for Windows.

This was announced last month in TMO. It comes in 400, 500, and 1Tb sizes and at least the 400Mb is 7200RPM.

Subject: Bus Power

OWC clarified that their drive can be powered via USB or FireWire. The LaCie drive mentioned in the comment above requires FireWire.
