Observer Comments
Your comments in this episode suggest Apple cancelled the Xserve RAID because it wasn't making enough money. I suspect something else. Looking at Apple's product line, I don't see anything there that's more than a year old. The RAID box is more than three years old. If it wasn't making money, it would have been cancelled long ago. Instead, I suspect that Apple ran into problems making a new model, spent three years valiantly trying to fix those problems, and finally gave up.
The reason why the Xserve RAID is so much better than competing products is that Apple has a pretty high standard for what it allows out the door. I have to believe we haven't seen anything since because Apple couldn't meet that standard.
