This podcast is recorded on a Mac using Audio Hijack Pro. As for equipment, John is using a Behringer C-1 microphone going through a Behringer Eurorack UB1222FX-PRO mixer, monitored with Etymotic ER-6i Isolator earphones, then straight in to his Mac. On Dave's end, a Heil PR-40 microphone is used, and the whole show is mixed "live" through a Mackie Onyx 1220 FireWire-enabled mixer before being pumped back into the Mac (via FireWire, of course), and is monitored with Ultimate Ears UE-7 Ambient earphones. Each microphone is run through a channel on a Behringer Autocom Pro-XL MDX1600 compressor, a touch of reverb is added with an ART FX-1 processor, and the whole thing is then compressed in software on the Mac. The show is recorded to AIFF, and then converted and uploaded with an Automator script. Michael, aka Computernap, then goes through and enhances the show to provide you with the AAC version. You can hear more details of the setup and how it's mixed on Episode #32.

I'm using a G5 tower dual processor about 5 years old. The firewire iSight camera works ok if alone. Add a firewire hard drive and it fails. The Apple discussion board showed that others had a similar problem. The solution through trial and error was physically putting the iSight as the last on the daisy chain. One of the firewire hard drives must have a second firewire port. Two firewire hd and iSight is working.
Great show with a technical level a little more detail then other mac tech pod casts.

That's interesting. I would have thought having the iSight on a completely different port on the iMac would be better, but... obviously not! I should try that before I replace this thing!

I was listening to your podcast and I have first hand experience with memory problems with the new Leopard operating system. I would recommend trying o remove the additional memory stick you put in the machine and running your backup. My expectation is that it will work fine. then you can work with Apple on why their machines will not work with any user installed memory. Hope you get your problem fixed.

I have user-installed memory in one of my machines. Works just fine. Using Leopard. So, their machines WILL work with user installed memory. Just may not work with user installed CHEAP memory.
